Digital Pink Slip FAQ’s
Do I still need a paper copy of my pink slip?
No, you do not need to carry a paper copy of your pink slip. The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) have approved the use of Electronic Proof of Auto Insurance, eSlips.
However, if you are in need of your pink slip and your smart phone’s battery is dead, this is not an accepted excuse if you are pulled over by the police.
Will I still get a paper pink slip?
“The Government has built in a one-year transition period for insurance companies to continue providing policyholders with paper proof of insurance regardless of whether they choose to leverage it electronically.”
If you would like to continue to receive a copy of your paper pink slip after this transition period, simply contact the Birkett-Hassard team and we will be happy to mail it to you.
Can I share my digital pink slip?
Yes! If your friend or family member is using your car, you can simply forward the pink slip to their phone.
Do I need internet to view my digital pink slip?
No, once you have downloaded your pink slip to your phone’s wallet, you will not need Internet to view the slip.
What about privacy?
Both iPhones and Androids have wallet functions that allow you to lock you phone while displaying your pink slip. It is your responsibility to activate any privacy settings on your phone.
Can I travel to the USA with my digital pink slip?
Some States have been using digital pink slips for many years now. We encourage you to check in with the state you are travelling to prior to leaving home with only your digital pink slip.
What about my phone getting damaged?
Your mobile device is your responsibility. If you use an electronic insurance card on your mobile device to show proof of insurance, you’re responsible for any risks that may arise such as damage to your mobile device. This includes during inspections of the electronic insurance card.
Will Birkett – Hassard Insurance being sending more digital copies of Insurance?
Yes! We are excited to say, we are implementing more digital documents. Our team is committed to a paperless environment and reducing our carbon footprint. Policies and pink slips will be sent to you in digital form giving you the opportunity to conveniently store on your computer and/or smart phone. The option for paper copies is always available to you, simply contact our office and we will send you the paper.
I did not get my digital copy of my pink slip, what should I do?
Simply send an email to info@bhinsure.ca stating Digital Pink Slip Request in the subject line and we will be sure to send you your pink slip ASAP!
